The Hot Topics Series of The Hudson Eye 2021 was made possible via a Relief Grant from Humanities New York.
Our nonprofit organization prides itself on providing space for and the intersection of culture and the humanities. Through the organization's programmatic efforts, both within Brooklyn and Hudson, our content has been able to foster a supportive environment for the exploration of global humanities through the presentation of the arts.
Most recently, the organization has successfully bridged the historical divide between the arts and humanities via the award of a humanities grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, supporting a high level of collaboration between artists and academics.
Building upon this methodology, The Hudson Eye program was founded as a way to think globally and work locally while highlighting work that speaks to humanity as a whole, rather than any singular demographic, socioeconomic status, age, race or religion. In dialogue with our local partners and collaborators, the organization was able to catalyze a diverse annual humanities-driven program in Hudson, NY as a way of strengthening our communities through the presentation of programs highlighting scholarship Free Public Lectures, Literary Arts, Visual Arts, Poetry, contemporary performance, and dance, all deeply rooted within the rich history of the region.
The Hudson Eye program celebrates the humanities, and the artists and intellectuals that have a longstanding commitment to the City of Hudson, while recognizing the next generation of artists and audiences in Hudson. This 10-day annual public program is wholly focused on preserving the rich history and future of the humanities within NY State. The program serves nearly 7,000 audience members through its programs, intending to further this reach in with future editions. As we go further in depth during our planning phases, we remain mindful of history, and steadfast in our support of humanities content: we have plans to expand our commitment following COVID-19.
